We need a powerful, unified movement that centers refugees as active agents and builds solidarity and resistance across communities to counter hate and push back against harmful policies, and the global apartheid system.
By the global apartheid system, we refer to the structural inequalities and restrictions imposed by borders, citizenship, and mobility regimes, which privilege some while marginalizing refugees, migrants, and the displaced.
The phrase 'refugee welcome' has become increasingly politicized due to the rise of xenophobic ideologies. As a result, expressing solidarity with refugees has transformed into a controversial political act. While this could theoretically lead to an increase in voices of solidarity, in practice we often see the opposite effect: people who wish to welcome refugees feel intimidated or hesitant to speak out openly, resulting in a decrease in audible expressions of support.
With years of first-hand experiences in systemic obstacles and gaps, we hope to redefine solidarity and inclusion. Thinking beyond the term "refugee" legal and humanitarian framework to challenge the structures of inequality and exclusion that underpin global mobility and citizenship.
RWW offers a practical model and blueprint for organizing impactful discussions, ensuring refugees’ voices are at the forefront of shaping inclusive narratives and driving change.
